NBI arrests drug trafficking fugitive from Australia
Markis Scott Turner, also known as Filip Novak, has settled in Samal, Davao del Norte, after he fled Australia, where he faces drug trafficking cases

MANILA, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday, September 28, announced it had arrested a foreign national who is a fugitive from Australia.

Markis Scott Turner, also known as Filip Novak, faces drug trafficking cases in Australia.

NBI Director Dante Gierran said Turner had been hiding in the Philippines to evade prosecution.

Turner left Australia in 2015 and settled in Samal, Davao del Norte, using the alias FIlip Novak.

With the help of Colombian nationals, Turner is said to have imported around 71.6 kilograms of cocaine between January 2009 and May 2011 into Australia for selling.

Turner did this through a company he owned, called CQE Materials and Handling. The drugs were hidden inside drums of hydraulic oil and were concealed by suspending the drugs within the oil.

The Australian government sought the provisional arrest of Turner through the Secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ), pursuant to the Philippines-Australia extradition treaty.

Turner was arrested on September 15 by operatives of the NBI-International Operations Division. – Rappler.com
