Pastor arrested in Davao City for carrying ‘illegal’ pistol
The 36-year-old pastor is found with a Colt MK IV .45 caliber pistol, but without the legal documents to prove he is a licensed firearm owner

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A pastor from Butuan City was arrested by police here early Monday morning, October 23, for illegal possession of firearms.

Filmar Rodriguez, 36, passed through a random Task Force Davao checkpoint near Sasa Public Market when authorities found he was carrying a Colt MK IV .45 caliber pistol.

Rodriguez could not show legal documents to prove he is a licensed firearm owner, said Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna, spokesperson of the Davao Police Regional Office.

He was arrested around 2 am on Monday and eventually brought to the Sasa Police Station, which is now preparing to file charges against him for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The law requires gun owners to secure licenses from the Firearms and Explosives Office of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Chief Inspector Emerson Pugong, chief of the Sasa Police Station, said Rodriguez was on his way to the Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City.

The firearm also had one magazine loaded with 7 pieces of live ammunition, according to Pugong.

In a radio interview, Rodriguez said he acquired the firearm from a friend who was selling it for P3,000.

“I decided to buy it, fearing it would go to the hands of those who will use it for evil,” Rodriguez told Brigada News FM.

According to the police’s investigation, Rodriguez is a minister of Oceans of Life Ministries Incorporated in Butuan City. – Rappler.com
