Principal lawyer Tranquil Salvador says he is confident the 12th division of the Court of Appeals will heed their petition

CEBU CITY, Philippines – “We’re ready!”

Lawyers of suspended Cebu Governor Gwendolyn “Gwen” Garcia are ready for oral augments for the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) petition filed before the Court of Appeals last year.

Principal lawyer Tranquil Salvador told reporters he is confident that the CA 12th division will heed their petition for a TRO against the suspension order released by Malacañang.

“Well yes, we are ready. We will be prepared for the oral argument. Siguro kung mababasa niyo ang petition, maganda iyong petition (If you read the petition, it’s a good one),” Salvador said.

The CA has scheduled Thursday next week, January 10, for the oral arguments.

Gwen was found guilty of grave abuse of authority and was suspended for 6 months.

Salvador, of the Romulo-Mabanta Law firm based in Manila, was one of the defense lawyers of impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Gwen expressed confidence that justice will soon be served with the help of her layers.

Even her daughter lawyer Christina Garcia-Frasco volunteered as one of her mother’s legal counsels.

A closed-door meeting was held on Saturday, January 5, to plan for the oral arguments with Salvador, Frasco, and lawyers Deputy House Speaker Pablo “Pabling” Garcia (Cebu, 2nd District), and Cebu 3rd  District Rep Pablo John “PJ” Garcia in attendance.

“I trust my lawyers and I trust the law firm itself (Romulo-Mabanta), it has an impeccable reputation. If you talk about preparation, I think they go even beyond, they walk that extra mile,” Gwen said.

“It is also important that we can lift our eyes up to God and pray. We know very well that this (suspension) case has gained national attention and I think most Filipinos are also looking at this case. We pray that justice will prevail,” Garcia explained.

Gwen, who is seeking a congressional seat under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), insists she is the duly elected governor despite the assumption of office by acting Cebu Gov Agnes Magpale of the Liberal Party. – Rappler.com
