LRT ridership hits all-time high on INC prayer rally day
The February 28 prayer rally of Iglesia Ni Cristo brought the passenger traffic for the LRT lines 1 and 2 to an all-time high

MANILA, Philippines – The February 28 prayer rally of religious group Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) brought the single day passenger traffic for the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) to an all-time high.

In a statement on Wednesday, February 29, the LRTA said it recorded total of 893,077 passengers for lines 1 and 2 on Tuesday.

This figure surpassed the previous record of 620,987 passengers during the Feast of Black Nazarene on January 9, 2012.
Engr. Emerson L. Benitez, LRTA officer-in –charge, said Line 1 ferried 658,627 passengers while Line 2 recorded 234,450 passengers.
Benitez attributed the high number of passengers not only to the INC members who joined the bible exposition in Luneta, but also to people who couldn’t get a bus or jeepney ride.
“We extended our revenue operations for an hour to service thousands of INC members and commuters who avoided the heavy traffic all around Metro Manila, Benitez said in a statement. –
