Here are the expected dates and areas of heavy traffic buildup during this year's Holy Week

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – As thousands are expected to travel to and from provinces for the Holy Week, transportation officials expect a higher traffic buildup in certain areas.

Some local governments have also announced traffic rerouting schemes.

Makati City

Due to Lenten activities, Makati City announced that from March 24 to April 1, a two-way traffic scheme will be implemented at JP Rizal Street in Barangay Poblacion “to give way to the installation of kubol on inner roads and for scheduled daily processions during the event.”

The city also provided alternative routes for private and public utility vehicles.

Tollway operators said heavy volume is expected in the following dates and areas:

Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX)

  • Northbound – Holy Wednesday, March 28, to Holy Thursday, March 29; and Black Saturday, March 31
    • Tarlac Central Toll Plaza
    • Urdaneta Toll Plaza
    • Urdaneta-MacArthur T-intersection
    • Binalonan Toll Plaza
    • Pozorrubio Toll
