DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least 3 persons were confirmed dead as the tail-end of a cold front continues to pour in heavy rain in several parts of Mindanao.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the continuous heavy downpour has caused flooding in Davao del Norte, Davao City, Compostela Valley, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Misamis Oriental.

Davao Oriental, which is one of the provinces heavily devastated by Typhoon Pablo (Bopha), is also flooded. Caraga bridge, which connects Caraga town to Manay town, was damaged by the raging floodwaters last Sunday, January 20.

Baogo bridge, which connects Caraga and Davao City to Baganga, was also heavily damaged by Typhoon Pablo. With the two bridges damaged, access to typhoon-affected areas is now very limited.

The casualty from Davao del Norte was identified as Glenn Custodio, 17 years old from Barangay San Miguel in Tagum City.

The casualties from Misamis Oriental were identified as Boyet Borres and Clyde Selgas from El Salvador City.

The NDRRMC also reported that 19, 840 families or 84, 202 persons were affected by the flooding.

A total of 8,542 families or 33, 192 persons are presently taking temporary shelter in various evacuation centers.

At least 1,380 families or 5,646 residents were affected in Compostela Valley while more than 4,404 families or 15,965 residents were affected in Cateel town in Davao Oriental.

In Davao del Norte, at least 1,619 families or 5,477 residents were affected while in Davao City 5,207 families or 20,964 residents were affected, the NDRRMC said.

At least 4,641 families or 23,205 residents were also affected in the towns of Kabacan, Matalam and Pikit in North Cotabato while 2,589 families or 12,945 residents were affected in Sultan Kudarat.

The NDRRMC said P5.16 million-worth of food and non-food relief packages has been delivered to affected residents in Davao City and Sultan Kudarat.
