MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Pandan, Catanduanes, past 2 pm on Saturday, May 5.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake struck at 2:19 pm. The quake’s depth of focus was 46 kilometers, and was of tectonic origin.

The tremor was also felt in parts of Metro Manila.

Phivolcs said aftershocks were expected following the earthquake. 

The government agency said the following intensities were felt:

  • Intensity III  – Guinayangan, Quezon; Sorsogon City, Sorsogon
  • Intensity II  in Lucban, Quezon
