MANILA, Philippines – Two weeks after ordering a probe against them, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Oscar Albayalde finally faced his Facebook bashers.

Nine cops from different police groups and regions reported to Albayalde’s Camp Crame office on Tuesday, May 8, after cops specializing in information technology tracked them down in the Buhay Lespu Facebook page.

Albayalde said in a Tuesday briefing that the cops hurled expletives at him online for his strict leadership – “conduct unbecoming of a police officer” that may lead to dismissal from service.

“They will be charged with conduct unbecoming and that can be a reason for them for dismissal,” the PNP chief told reporters right after presenting an alleged Maute Group terrorist.

Albayalde’s office summoned a total of 11 cops, but two did not show up.

One of the absentees, in fact, is a classmate of Albayalde’s aide Senior Inspector Joseph Carlit from the PNP Academy’s Kaisang-Bisig Class of 2009.

The top cop added that there are around 20 other bashers who they have yet to summon.

Albayalde reiterated that the sanctions against the bashers were not done to curtail police’s freedom of expression. As cops, Albayalde said, they should respect their superiors, and if they have complaints, they should turn to the PNP’s grievance committee. –
