MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday, May 8, promoted Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Elson Hermogino to the rank of admiral.

Hermogino was previously station commander in various PCG stations, and was commander of PCG districts in Bicol, Northern Mindanao, and Southern Tagalog. 

Born in San Carlos City in Pangasinan, Hermogino is part of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Sandiwa Class of 1985.

He finished his postgraduate studies at the World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden, and earned a master’s degree in maritime administration in 1996.

The Coast Guard chief has won numerous awards such as the Coast Guard Legion of Honor and Ribbon (Degree of Maginoo) and the Coast Guard Outstanding Achievement Medal and Ribbon.
