Barangay captain bet arrested over ex-La Union lawmaker Eriguel’s slay
The Philippine National Police says Felizardo Villanueva, a barangay captain candidate, is among the suspects in the killing of Eufranio Eriguel

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has arrested a suspect in the recent killing of former La Union lawmaker Eufranio Eriguel, and he was a candidate in the barangay elections.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde announced on Tuesday, May 15, that cops have captured barangay captain candidate Felizardo Villanueva, alias “Rambo,” of Capas in Agoo, La Union.

Eriguel and his two bodyguards were gunned down in Barangay Capas on May 12, the last day for campaigning in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

According to a Philippine Star report, Eriguel’s family believes he was killed because of heated local politics.

Eriguel was said to be attending a gathering in their barangay when suspects onboard a black Mitsubishi Montero and a white Toyota Innova opened fire.

It is still unclear whether Villanueva allegedly ordered the killing or he is believed to be among the killers. – Rappler.com
