BASILAN, Philippines – The civil registrar of Isabela City, this province, was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants at around 9 am Thursday, May 24. 

Jordan Guerrero Juaini and his driver Basser Abdullah were attacked along Rojas Avenue in Barangay Eastside, a few meters away from the detachment of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force.

Juaini sustained gunshot wounds in his neck, while his driver is safe.

Police said the suspects fled toward the direction of Theresa Heights in Barangay Eastside. 

Juaini was immediately brought to the Basilan Community Hospital, but was pronounced dead by the attending physician.  

Juaini was the political planner of the Akbars in Basilan. He became the spokesperson of the late Basilan governor and congresswoman Jum Akbar, and was recently appointed as the local civil registrar of Isabela City by Mayor Al Qaid Akbar. 

Authorities have set up checkpoints in the area of the incident.
