Another sacked PCUP commissioner back in government
MANILA, Philippines – Yet another official previously fired by President Rodrigo Duterte has been given a new government post.
Manuel Serra Jr, one of the 5 Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) executives axed by Duterte in December 2017, has been named a member of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) governing board.
Serra will serve the unexpired term of Abundio dela Torre, which ends in a few weeks, on June 30.
The 5 PCUP officials, including its former chairman Terry Ridon, were sacked allegedly for excessive foreign travels and lack of meetings as a collegial body.
Melissa Aradanas, another of the dismissed PCUP officials, was appointed deputy commissioner at the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council by Duterte last March.
Aradanas happens to be a cousin of Duterte's longtime partner, Honeylet Avanceña.
Duterte also reappointed former Social Security System commissioner Jose Gabriel "Pompee" La Viña, who he fired allegedly for abuse of funds, as tourism undersecretary and then, just on Wednesday, as agriculture undersecretary.
Thus, Serra is the 3rd official to have been fired by Duterte and appointed back to government.
Meanwhile, Celestina de la Serna, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation's interim president, was fired from her post but was retained by Duterte in PhilHealth's board of directors. – Rappler.com
