Remains of slain Slovakia OFW Henry Acorda brought back to Manila
Philippine government officials join the family of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Henry Acorda in receiving his remains on Tuesday, June 19

MANILA, Philippines – The remains of Henry Acorda, the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) slain while defending two women in Slovakia, arrived in Manila on Tuesday morning, June 19.

Philippine government officials joined the Acorda family in receiving the OFW’s remains at Ages Aviation Center, Pasay City, on Tuesday.

Acorda, 36, died in a hospital on May 26 after two men beat him up for trying to defend two women they were harassing.

Carrying banners that read “Justice for Henry,” thousands of Slovaks staged a protest on June 8 to pay tribute to Acorda.

“We mourn the loss of another of our own who, by all accounts, is a hero who came to the rescue of the defenseless in a land that is not even his,” said Philippine Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano in a statement on June 3.

“We give our assurance to Henry’s family that we will do everything to make sure that those responsible for his death are brought to justice,” Cayetano added. – Rappler.com
