FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, has opened its disciplinary proceedings against the Philippines and Australia after their team members figured in a bench-clearing brawl at the Philippine Arena on Monday, July 2. Gilas Pilipinas lost to Australia by default at the first round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

A city official of Tanauan in Batangas revealed that before the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections last May, Mayor Antonio “Tony” Halili spoke about an “imminent threat” to his life. Halili was shot dead Monday morning, July 2, while attending the city hall’s weekly flag raising ceremony. 

In Cebu City, a lawyer and his wife were ambushed in their own home on Monday afternoon. Lawyer Salvador Solima was later declared dead, while his wife is in critical condition.
