UPCAT results out
MANILA, Philippines - The list of those who passed the entrance exams of the country's premiere state university for the academic year 2013-2014 is out.
75,000 high school students took the exam in August 2012, higher than last year's 71,000. The average number of takers is 60,000.
Out of these 60,000, only 10,000 pass on average. In 2011, however, there were 13,000 passers.
Successful examineers are ranked according to their university predicted grade (UPG), which combines their weighted averages of high school grades and their weighted scores in the UPCAT sub-tests on language proficiency, reading comprehension, mathematics and science.
The top 50 qualifiers are awarded the Oblation scholarships, which cover tuition, miscellaneous and laboratory fees, a semestral book subsidy, a monthly incentive and transportation allowance.
The UPCAT consists of sections on reading comprehension, language proficiency, science and mathematics.
