Mindanao feels wrath of ‘Crising’

DAVAO CITY, Philippines- Several towns and cities in different provinces in Mindanao experienced the effects of tropical depression “Crising” as it made landfall in Davao del Sur on Tuesday, February 19.

In Davao City, a swelling Davao River prompted residents in Matina and Buhangin to leave their homes and seek higher ground.

A small ferryboat used to transport passengers across the river was also reportedly swept away by the raging water.

Mayor Sara Duterte earlier suspended classes from preschool to high school in the city.

The typhoon-battered province of Davao Oriental was not spared by flooding brought by the recent weather disturbance, forcing families to evacuate from the towns of Baganga and Tarragona.

Meanwhile, two persons were injured in a landslide in Sapad, Lanao del Sur, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

The victims, who were immediately rescued and brought to the hospital, were identified as 8-year-old Dodong Nacua and 20-year-old Maria Nacua, according to the NDRRMC.

Several areas in the CARAGA region were also flooded, including the villages of San Roque, Patong, Poblacion and Baras in the town of San Miguel and Anghao in Tago.

In Bukidnon, Gov Alex Calingasan suspended classes on all level both in private and public schools.

Classes in preschool to high school were also suspended in Lala, Lanao del Norte and Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental.

Classes in preschool to elementary were suspended in the cities of Butuan, Bislig, Tandag, Carmen and Lingig. – Rappler.com
