Parts of EDSA closed for ‘People Power’

MANILA, Philippines – Starting Saturday, February 23, some roads in the Ortigas area will be closed to traffic to prepare for festivities of the 27th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

By 9 pm Saturday, February 23, the westbound lane of the White Plains Drive from Temple Drive will be closed to traffic to prepare the stage for the celebration. 

On Sunday, February 24, both directions on White Plains Drive will be closed starting at 2 am. This will be in preparation for the following activities: 

• 4 am – Assembly: “Run for Juan” 21K fun run at People Power Monument
• 4:20 am – Gun start: “Run for Juan” 21K
• 4:30 am – Assembly: “Run for Juan” 3K, 5K and 10K fun run at People Power Monument
• 5:30 am – Gun start: “Run for Juan” 10K                  
• 5:50 am – Gun start: “Run for Juan” 5K
• 6 am – Gun start: “Run for Juan” 3K
• 7 am – Reopening of closed parts of EDSA 

The Ortigas Center Association said the 10K and 21K route of “Run for Juan” will pass through Doña Julia Vargas Avenue up to Lanuza Avenue and back.

This means the westbound lane of Julia Vargas Avenue will be closed to traffic. The eastbound lane of Julia Vargas, meanwhile, will be open to two-way traffic. 

On Monday, February 25, 2013, EDSA from Corinthians to Aguinaldo Gate 3 will be closed starting at 12 midnight. 

White Plains from Temple Drive to EDSA will also be closed at the following times:

• 1 am – Full road closure (White Plains from Temple Drive to EDSA)
• 2 am – Full road closure (White Plains from EDSA to Temple Drive)
• 5 am – Total closure of: Guadix Service Road, Ortigas Flyover NB, Ortigas Service Road NB, Ortigas SB to NB
• 7 am – Event Proper
• 11 am – Reopening of closed partz of EDSA
