CAGAYAN DE ORO, Philippines – Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) chief Colonel Nelson Aganon has been in the intensive care unit of a hospital here after a training accident at the army headquarters here.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Surki Sereñas, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10), said Aganon was undergoing a mandatory motorcycle riding course when he encountered an accident on Wednesday, May 22.

“Aganon suffered head injury after his fall and had to undergo an emergency surgery Wednesday night,” Sereñas said.

Aganon was attempting a 4-foot gap jump when the incident happened. The training for PRO10 officers was held at Camp Edilberto Evangelista, headquarters of the 4th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

A video recording of the incident showed Aganon riding a KLX dirt bike when one of the tires of his bike slipped on the ramp as he attempted the jump.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Mardy Hortillosa, COCPO Spokesperson, said Aganon’s surgery was successful but the police officer had to be placed under a medically-induced coma.
