Police in Tuburan, Cebu, say that although the victims have been identified by their relatives, the bodies will still be submitted for DNA confirmation

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Two charred bodies were found in Sitio Matnog, Barangay Putat, Tuburan, north of Cebu, on Tuesday morning, May 28.

The Tuburan Police Station identified the two victims as Niko Baricar of Barangay Mambaling and John Paul Galon of Barangay Kalunasan, both in Cebu City. They were identified after their relatives went to the police station in Tuburan.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Alfredo Mandal of the Tuburan police told Rappler that Baricar was identified through the silver ring he was wearing which was engraved with “Cherie” – the name of Baricar’s live-in partner.

Meanwhile, Galon was identified by his mother through what was left of his clothing, as it was the last clothing his mother saw him wear on Wednesday evening, May 22.

Baricar’s family last saw him and heard from him on Thursday evening, May 23. They said they tried to contact Baricar until May 25.

Ato gihapon gi submit for DNA confirmation (We will still submit for DNA confirmation),” Mandal said, adding that they already sent samples to the Cebu Provincial Police Office’s crime lab for further identification. – Rappler.com
