The Philippine Coast Guard nabs the Vietnamese and seizes their fishing boats near Calayan Island in Cagayan

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) arrested 10 Vietnamese aboard two boats for alleged illegal fishing off Calayan Island in Cagayan.

PCG spokesman Captain Armand Balilo said their personnel spotted one of the Vietnamese boats during patrol operations around 1 am on Saturday, June 1.

The Vietnamese boat, with body number BO 96281, tried to evade the PCG.

It was eventually intercepted, but it hit and damaged the MCS 3010 vessel of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), which was carrying the PCG personnel.

A couple of hours later, the PCG also intercepted another Vietnamese boat, with body number BO 95115.

The apprehended foreigners have since been turned over to the BFAR for investigation. – Rappler.com
