Davao del Sur information officer arrested over illegal recruitment
Police say provincial information officer Sherwin Cesar and his accomplice face large-scale estafa complaints

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Police  have arrested a Davao del Sur  provincial information officer (PIO) and another companion over alleged illegal recruitment activities.

Police Major Reuben Libera,  Sasa district police chief, said provincial information officer Sherwin Cesar and Jojie Luy Camillo were arrested during an operation in Padada town in Davao del Sur on Sunday night, June 16.

Libera said the two were subjects of a warrant for large-scale estafa, a non-bailable offense.

They supposedly recruited workers for Japan but failed to send out the recruits even after they allegedly collected money from them.

“We have complainants against them,” Libera said in a phone interview.

The two are being held by Sasa police pending their presentation to the court. – Rappler.com
