President Rodrigo Duterte appoints lawyer Rodolfo Robles as the Philippines' Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York

MANILA, Philippines – Rodolfo Robles, a former member of a Duterte-formed committee tasked with drafting a federal constitution, has been named the Philippines’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) in New York.

Robles’ name appeared on the list of new appointees sent by Malacañang to media on Tuesday, July 2. His appointment papers were signed on Monday, July 1.

Robles, a lawyer, had served the  administration of President Rodrigo Duterte as a member of the Consultative Committee which produced a draft federal constitution in July 2018. He was also a nominee to the Supreme Court prior to the Duterte presidency.

Malacañang also announced the appoinment of Eliseo Rio Jr as Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary, Benedicto Malcontento as Prosecutor General, and Ryan Vincent Uy as Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary.

Malcontento was appointed on June 28 and Uy on July 1.

Rio had served as ICT Acting Secretary before former senator Gringo Honasan took his oath as ICT ad-interim Secretary on Monday.

Honasan said Rio will function as undersecretary for operations. – Rappler.com
