MANILA, Philippines – Brigada News-Kidapawan City radio commentator Eduardo Dizon was gunned down in Kidapawan City on Wednesday night, July 10.

According to a police report, Dizon was in his Mitsubishi Mirage G4 at about 10:25 pm when an unidentified suspect shot him several times. Dizon died on the spot.

Police said the shooting took place along National Highway, Quezon Boulevard corner Diversion Road Sinsuat St, Kidapawan City.

According to the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines, Kidapawan chief of police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Joyce Birrey said Dizon steered his car to the side of the road but died from 5 gunshot wounds to the body. 

Dizon was Brigada News-Kidapawan City radio station’s manager until 2018. He ran for councilor in the municipality of Makilala, North Cotabato during the 2019 elections but lost. 

Philippine National Police Chief Police General Oscar Albayalde directed Soccsksargen Regional Director Police Brigadier General Eliseo Rasco to immediately investigate the incident.

Dizon is the 13th journalist to be killed since the start of the Duterte administration. The International Federation of Journalists said the Philippines was one country one of the deadliest places for journalists in Southeast Asia. – Rappler.com
