MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang suspended classes in all levels and government work in Calabarzon, Metro Manila, and Central Luzon for Monday, January 13, due to the Taal Volcano ash eruption and the ensuing ashfall.

The Palace announced around midnight that the order does not include “frontline response agencies” involved in disaster response and in the delivery of vital services.

“The private sector is highly encouraged to suspend work for the safety of their employees,” added Malacañang.

Earlier, various local government units also declared class suspensions. These are:

Calabarzon

• Batangas province – all levels (public and private). Earlier announcements:
• municipalities around Taal Lake (Talisay, Balete, Mataas na Kahoy, Cuenca, Alitagtag, Sta Teresita, San Nicolas, Agoncillo, Laurel) – all levels (public and private)
• Lipa City – all levels (public and private)

• Cavite province – all levels (public and private)

Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta also suspended work in all courts in the National Capital Judicial Region.

Meanwhile, there will be no trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange, and no clearing and settlement at the Securities Clearing Corporation of the Philippines. The Bankers Association of the Philippines also said peso-dollar spot trading is closed. – Rappler.com
