12 dead, 531 injured during Holy Week
MANILA, Philippines - Twelve people died and 531 people were injured during the 5-day Holy Week period, which started March 27 and ended Sunday, March 31, the government reported.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said 7 died of drowning, two of gunshot wounds and another two due to vehicular accidents. One perished in a fire in Lipa City, Batangas.
One died in an encounter between soldiers and New People's Army rebels in Butuan City, Mindanao on March 29.
NDRRMC also monitored 33 incidents, where 531 people were injured. These incidents included flooding and procession-related mishaps.
Most of the injured came from the National Capital Region, at 490, followed by Region IV, at 24.
Among the 12 who died, 6 came from Region IV, 3 from Region 11, one from Caraga, one from Region X and one from Region 1. - Rappler.com
