MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Pangasinan Provincial Health Office (PHO) on Thursday night, March 26, said that another new case of the coronavirus disease in the province has been confirmed, bringing the total number of patients to 5.

“As of 7pm tonight, there are already five confirmed COVID-19 cases”, Dr. Ana de Guzman, provincial health officer, said in a radio interview.

De Guzman said that the new patient is a 70-year-old resident of Rosales town. His younger brother, a 68 year-old Filipino-American citizen, died last March 18 from COVID-19, the disease brought by the novel coronavirus.

The patient is in stable condition, de Guzman said.

She also assured the public that 98% of those the Fil-Am deceased COVID-19 patient have been contacted. She assured the public that health authorities continue to do extensive contact tracing.

The PHO has recorded 13 persons under investigation (PUIs) admitted to hospitals and 62,557 persons under monitoring (PUM).

Health officials confirmed Pangasinan’s first case on Friday, March 20. The patient, a resident of Bayambang town, died at the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City on the same day.
