#TalkThursday: Startups in the Philippines

#TalkThursday speaks with Bowei Gai and Ron Hose about the potential of startups in the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines – This week, #TalkThursday speaks with Bowei Gai and Ron Hose.

Bowei Gai is an entrepreneur from Silicon Valley who founded the company CardMunch, a mobile business card transcription service which he then sold to LinkedIn in 2011.

In the beginning of 2013, he embarked on a 9-month long mission covering 29 countries and 36 cities to do research on the world’s startup ecosystems. 

The project, called World Startup Report, aims to connect with local entrepreneurs around the world and pool together best business practices and knowledge. To date, he has visited India, Australia, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. The World Startup Report has since released The China Startup Report and The India Startup Report.

Ron Hose is an investor and adviser to many Silicon Valley start-ups. Hose a founding partner at Innovation Endeavors, an early stage venture capital fund. He was also a co-founder of the company TokBox, a consumer video conferencing company connecting customers from around the world.

They talk to Rappler about the potential of startups in the Philippines and how the business environment for startups compares to those around the world.
