SC issues order to protect Edita Burgos

MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday, April 12, said it has ordered authorities to protect Edita Burgos, mother of missing activist Jonas Burgos, after new evidence on her son’s case surfaced.

In a temporary protection order, the SC directed the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) “to provide security and protection” for Mrs Burgos and her immediate family.

The SC issued the TPO “taking note also of Mrs Burgos’s claims that she fears for her own personal security in light of the sensitive nature of the newly discovered evidence” in her son’s case,” according to an update provided by the SC Public Information Office. (Read the document below.)

SC on Edita Burgos’ Urgent Ex Parte Motion Ex Abundanti Cautela

The SC directed respondents “to comment within 10 days from receipt of resolution on Edita Burgos motion, with sealed documents,” SC spokesman Ted Te added in a tweet.

Mrs Burgos had asked the SC to ask the Court of Appeals to re-open the case of her son.
