BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Two of the 13 inmates who escaped Wednesday, April 17, from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology detention jail in Sagay City, were recaptured at about 4:40 p.m. Friday, April 19, in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said Rolando Bajo,22, the alleged brains behind the jailbreak, and Jeck Espanola, were arrested at a bus terminal in Cadiz City.

De la Paz said a .38 caliber revolver and ammunition were seized from Bajo. Both are facing murder charges.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has offered a P10,000 reward for the recapture of each of the 13 fugitives.

De la Paz said the offer of cash rewards by the BJMP, and the distribution of pictures of the escapees to various media outlets, police units and key areas of Negros Occidental, have helped their joint manhunt operations with the Army.

The escape of 13 inmates caused the relief of Chief Inspector Benny Cobarde as Sagay BJMP warden, Jail Officers 1 Jover Valenzuela and Francis Ballador.

De la Paz said the fugitives are armed and dangerous.

Majority of the escapees are facing murder charges in court, police records showed. – Rappler.com
