MANILA, Philippines – All activity within Mayon Volcano’s Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) has been suspended by the Albay local government, following a phreatic explosion Tuesday, May 7.

Albay Gov Joey Salceda ordered the suspension of all activities inside the zone, which extends 6 km outward from the crater area of the volcano.

These activities include farming, mountain climbing, and other activities.

The volcano spewed out ash and steam Tuesday morning, killing 5 mountain climbers and injuring at least 7 others. – Rappler.com
