Broadcaster kidnapping a hoax – report

MANILA, Philippines – A new report has surfaced pointing to the kidnapping of a Quezon broadcaster as a hoax done by the broadcaster herself for protection.

According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s report, the supposed victim, Melinda Jennifer Glefonea, phoned the town’s police chief, Supt. Francisco Obreo, to confess the incident was staged.

Chief Insp. Edcille Canals, Quezon police media relations officer, told the Inquirer by phone that “She (Glefonea) called the chief of police and admitted that the kidnapping was scripted, that she herself planned it.”

Mitch Regondola, Glefonea’s co-anchor, did not know this was staged until Glefonea called her to admit the kidnapping was fake. Regolonda noted that Glefonera said “she planned it to preempt the persons who wanted to do her harm” and that she would only show herself if the police afforded her protection from her enemies. – Rappler.com
