MANILA – Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo took the oath for her second term as Pampanga Representative over the weekend while in hospital detention, her chief of staff said Monday, July 1.

Arroyo has been under hospital detention since October 2012 at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City for plunder, in connection with the alleged misuse of P366 million in Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) intelligence funds during her presidency.

Arroyo took her oath of office before lawyer Galileo Angeles at the presidential suite of the VMMC 11:30 am Saturday, June 29.

The oath-taking was witnessed by her immediate family, staff, and 6 guests from Arroyo’s district.

Despite being in hospital detention, Arroyo overwhelmingly won against her opponent in the second district of Pampanga.

Running under Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, Arroyo got 149,344 votes against Vivian Dabu’s 16,238 votes. Dabu is the candidate of the ruling Liberal Party. – Rappler.com
