Town councilor in Abra shot dead, robbed
Councilor Rogelio Pudol Talingdan of La Paz town in Abra had just sold some of his cows in the cattle market. The gunmen took P500,000 from him.

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – A councilor of La Paz town in Abra was shot dead early Thursday morning, July 4, by unidentified men who also then took about P500,000 in his pocket.

Abra police identified the victim as Rogelio Pudol Talingdan, 52, of Barangay San Gregorio, La Paz, and a Sangguniang Bayan member of the same town.

Police said Talingdan had just sold some of his cows in the cattle market in nearby Dolores town, also in Abra, when he was shot dead.

Unidentified men repeatedly hit Talingdan in the head, took the money from his vest, and then walked away.

Police recovered slugs from a yet unknown caliber of firearm. They also found Talingdan’s cellphone.

The probable motive is robbery, even as the local police is still conducting pursuit operations of the suspects.

In a related event, a rifle grenade was recovered in Dolores town the day before, on July 3. Dolores police said that someone tipped them off about surrendering a rifle grenade and that he would leave the firearm at the foot of Masanad Bridge in Barangay Kimmalaba.

The police went to the area and indeed the explosive was there. –
