'It can not and will not deter us from our job,' De Lima says

UNFAZED. Justice Secretary Leila de Lima says reports of death threats against her only emboldens her to finish the probe into the pork barrel scam.

MANILA, Philippines – More than just being unfazed, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said the alleged death threat against her and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) chief Nonnatus Rojas only strengthens their resolve to push the investigation into the multi-million-peso pork barrel scam further.

Authorities are still validating reports of a purported assassination plot against the two top officials but whether it is true or not, De Lima said such threats “can not and will not deter us from our job.”

“On the contrary, it can only embolden us to finish through the ongoing probe to its logical conclusion, i.e. the filing of charges,” De Lima said in a text message.

On Friday, August 16, Levi Baligod, the lawyer of whistleblowers who have tagged Janet Lim-Napoles as the alleged mastermind behind the scandal, revealed that he, along with the NBI and DOJ chiefs, have a bounty on their head.

Baligod said he received information that two squads – 5 men from Basilan who will serve as the hitmen, and a group of ex-Marines to do the surveillance work on the targets – have been hired to do the job.

He refused to give any names or say it is Napoles behind the recruitment, although Napoles has family ties in Basilan and is close to members of the military. Napoles’ family on the maternal side is from Basilan, while her husband Jimmy is a former member of the Marines. – Rappler.com
