OFW killed, found in Egypt dumpsite
The dead Filipina was concealed in a suitcase, the DFA says

MANILA, Philippines – Concealed in a large suitcase, the body of an unidentified overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was left in a dumpsite in Egypt after she was reportedly murdered, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday, August 21.

DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said the OFW was a woman, whose body was found in Nasr City. “The corpse has been blackened due to decomposition,” Hernandez said in a text message.

He said the Filipina’s death was reported to the Philippine Embassy in Cairo last August 17.

Hernandez said the Egyptian police haven’t identified the circumstances surrounding the Filipina’s murder.

On Wednesday, the DFA also repatriated the first batch of Filipinos from Egypt. Five Filipinos returned to the Philippines after the DFA on Monday, August 19, raised crisis alert level 4 over the strife-torn country.

This alert level meant mandatory repatriation, given the rising tensions there. – Paterno Esmaquel II/
