Taguig police keeps jurisdiction over Fort Bonifacio
MANILA, Philippines – Until there's a final court ruling on the boundary dispute between the cities of Taguig and Makati, maintaining peace and order in Fort Bonifacio will be the responsibility of the Taguig police.
Metro Manila Police Chief Supt Marcelo Garbo Jr maintained this position after Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay Jr requested that the Makati police be allowed to start exercising authority over the business hub.
Taguig and Makati are locked in a dispute over Fort Bonifacio and several "embo" barangays. The Court of Appeals (CA) recently sided with Makati, reverting 729.15 hectares of land to Makati.
The contested area starts from behind Magallanes, Dasmarinas, and Forbes Park subdivisions, all the way to parts of Guadalupe. On August 29, Taguig City filed a Motion for Reconsideration before the CA.
Taguig Police Chief Felix Asis welcomed Garbo's orders. He said this would ease the tension between them and Makati Police, according to a DZMM report.
Tension between Makati and Taguig police rose in the past weeks as their local governments argued over which has jurisdiction over the area. Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano earlier appealed to Mayor Binay to be "responsible" in making statements that sow confusion, arguing that the CA's ruling was not final and executory. – Rappler.com
