MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – World champion and Sarangani Rep Manny Pacquiao is joining the PDP-Laban, the political party headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay, according to Binay himself.

This was disclosed by Binay’s media office. In a text message, Joey Salgado, Binay’s public information officer, said: “VP (Binay) has confirmed that Pacquiao is joining PDP-Laban.”

Pacquiao has said he is running for governor of Sarangani.

In an interview with Solar TV, Binay was asked about reports that Pacquiao is joining PDP-Laban. “It’s confirmed. He approached me and told me that he wanted to join PDP Laban,” Binay said.

He said Pacquiao told him about his plan to join the party “last month,” during a meeting of the Philippine Sportwriters Association. –
