Prison official killed in Bilibid
MANILA, Philippines – An official of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) was killed inside the compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City early Tuesday, September 17.
Prison Superintendent III Francisco Abunales was killed infront of his living quarters inside the NBP reservation at around 8:45 am Tuesday, by 2 unidentified men riding a motorcycle.
The suspects fired 5 shots at Abunales. He was later declared dead at the Muntinlupa Medical Center at around 9:38 am.
Abunales was assigned to the NBP, while undergoing an investigation in connection with a fatal shooting incident at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro.
In the said incident, maximum security prisoner Roland Ho was shot to death at the Sablayan town proper June 14, 2013, after leaving his confinement area without authorization and an escort.
Abunales at that time was the head of the penal facility. He, along with 13 other officers from the prison, were relieved of their duties.
The Department of Justice has been handling the investigation of the Sablayan incident. – Rappler.com
