Philippines wastes rice equivalent to a third of imports

Remember when your mother told you to finish your rice because “a lot of people are starving?” Well, findings by a research group says that collectively, Filipino households may be wasting 300,000 tons a year or 36% of the country’s rice imports in 2011.  Researchers say a campaign to curb wasteful consumption may help eliminate the need for more imports.  The studies also show middle class households waste the most amount of rice.
