MANILA, Philippines – Two more bodies were found in two Bohol towns, raising the death toll from the magnitude 7.2 central Visayas earthquake to 215 as of Sunday, October 27.

Bohol reported the most casualties at 201, followed by Cebu (13) and Siquijor (1). Eight people continue to be missing – all of them from the province of Bohol. At least 742 were injured by the quake, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.

More than 2 million people in 1,527 barangays from Regions VI and VII were affected by the quake. Of the affected, 352,077 people are still displaced. Some 92,678 people live inside 265 evacuation centers, while the rest stay in their town’s open spaces, or areas close to their damaged homes.

At least 57,920 houses were damaged partially or totally by the quake.

Aid continues to pour in Bohol even if the government’s calamity fund is running dry. Over P48 million has been shelled out by national and local governments, as well as non-government organizations to help those affected by the quake.

President Benigno Aquino III last week visited badly-hit towns in Bohol to reassure residents that there was no “immediate danger” in the province.

Damage at P2.2B

As families in several Bohol towns remain camped out in makeshift tents, damage caused by the quake has hit P2.2 billion, according to the latest NDRRMC report.

Bohol reported the highest amount of damage at P1.383 billion, followed by Cebu (P817 million), Siquijor (P1.45 million), and Negros Occidental (P270,000).

Power supply in affected Bohol towns has been restored, except for a few – Antequera has 55% of its power restored; Calape, 84.8%; Catigbian, 85.71%; and Loon, 74.63%.
