The owner of Sugni Superstore in Cotabato City is abducted Tuesday night right inside his mall

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Armed men seized an Indian mall owner right inside his mall Tuesday night, October 29, in this city, killing his security escort and wounding another.

Police said Wednesday, October 30, that armed men kidnapped Mike Khemani of Sugni Superstore along Mabini Street at 6 pm Tuesday, exchanging fire with his security aides before boarding a getaway vehicle.

Police recovered the vehicle, with plate number MCW 692, an hour later in a nearby village, according to Senior Supt Rolen Balquin, Cotabato police chief.

He said that Khemani’s security aide, Kaura Abdul, died during the shootout while another, Mustapha Abdulrahim, was wounded.

“Khemani was in his establishment when he was forcibly taken by gunmen at gunpoint,” he said. Quoting witnesses, Balquin said 4 of the suspects were in police uniform during the incident.

Khemani owns two other malls in Kabacan, North Cotabato and Kidapawan City. He managed to escape two attempted kidnappings in 2007 and 2009.

No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction. – Rappler.com
