Typhoon Yolanda destroys houses, cuts power in Surigao
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least 5 houses were destroyed as Typhoon Yolanda battered the province of Surigao del Norte.
Capt Alberto Caber, chief of the Eastern Mindanao Command's public affairs office, said 4 houses were also damaged while 28,807 residents were presently taking temporary shelter in different evacuation centers.
All bridges and roads from the town of Alegria to Surigao City are still passable, Caber said.
He added that the entire Siargao Island is currently experiencing total power outage.
Meanwhile, the clearing of fallen trees is now ongoing in the Dinagat Islands, the military said.
There are no reports of casualties as of posting.
Caber said both provinces are still experiencing heavy rains and strong winds. - Rappler.com
