
After causing devastation in the Philippines, Typhoon Haiyan (Philippine codename Yolanda) made landfall in Vietnam early Monday, November 11. More than 600,000 people were evacuated over the weekend as residents braced for heavy rains and flooding. The army has been mobilized to provide emergency relief with some 170,000 soldiers assisting people after the typhoon hits. Haiyan had weakened significantly and made landfall in Vietnam with sustained winds of 120 km/h.
