3 prosecutors disclose SALNs

MANILA, Philippines – Three of the 14-member prosecution panel against Chief Justice Renato Corona have disclosed their Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) for the year 2011.

They are prosecutors Arlene “Kaka” Bag-ao of Akbayan, Neri Colmenares of Bayan Muna, and spokesperson Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III of Quezon.

April 30, Monday, was the deadline for the filing of SALNs.  Republic Act 6770 requires all public officials to file every year.

Bag-ao reported a net worth of P1,098,320.30.

Colmenares reported total assets worth P2.4 million and loans worth P1.7 million. His net worth is about P700,000.

Tañada reported total assets worth P18.6 million and a loan worth P2 million. His net worth is P16.5 million.

With 188 votes, the House of Representatives impeached the Chief Justice on December 12, 2011. Article 2 of the impeachment complaint accuses Corona of failing to accurately declare his assets in his SALN.

Colmenares said he was more careful in preparing his SALN this year because of the impeachment trial. It’s possible to make mistakes, he said.

“The main principle is that the people will be more forgiving of a mistake if your asset is not inordinately more than your income. The moment your asset cannot be supported by your income then you are presumed to have intentionally doctored your SALN,” Colmenares said.

The others members of the prosecution panel are representatives Niel Tupas Jr. of Iloilo, Joseph Emilio Abaya of Cavite, Raul Daza of Northern Samar, Rep. Marlyn Agabas of Pangasinan, Elpidio Barzaga of Cavite, Giorgidi Aggabao of Isabela, Sherwin Tugna of Cibac partylist, Reynaldo Umali of Oriental Mindoro, Rodolfo Fariñas of Ilocos Norte, Juan Edgardo Angara of Aurora, and Ramiro Quimbo of Marikina.
