DOH records first firecracker injury
MANILA, Philippines – Nine days before the New Year's celebration, the Department of Health recorded its first case of firecracker-related injury.
Health undersecretary Eric Tayag tweeted on Sunday, December 22 that a 9-year-old boy from Manila was injured by piccolo.

In his tweet, Tayag also stressed that in the same day last year, 7 firecracker-related cases were recorded by DOH.
The total number of firework-related injuries leading up to New Year 2013 was 904, the lowest in the past 5 years.
According to the 2012 Fireworks-Related Injury Surveillance, Metro Manila recorded the highest number of firecracker-related injuries.
Known for his dance moves during health campaigns, Tayag drew attention to this year's Iwas-Paputok campaign by dancing to the tune of Katy Perry's hit song “Roar.”
