DAVAO CITY, Philippines – After days of continuos heavy downpour caused by a Low Pressure Area, at least 481 families were evacuated in the provinces of Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte on Saturday, January 11.

The Office of Civil Defense-Region 11 said that in Davao del Norte, 130 families from New Corella, 76 families from Asuncion, and 37 families from Kapalong were evacuated to various shelters.

In Compostela Valley, 110 families from Laak, 33 families from Nabunturan, 43 families from Montevista, 50 families from Compostela and 2 families from Monkayo are presently staying in evacuation centers.

OCD reported that a landslide occurred along a road going to Purok 6, El Salvador in the town of New Corella at around 2 in the afternoon on Saturday.

Strong waters also destroyed a Bailey bridge in Barangay Depot Upper Ulip in Monkayo town while a provincial road was covered by a mudslide in Nabunturan town, the OCD said.
