DAVAO CITY, Philippines – With continuous rains due to Tropical Depression Agaton (Lingling) threatening the city, Davao’s responders are now preparing for possible floods and landslides.

The city’s emergency response center, Central 911, has already mobilized its units to respond to any emergency.

Allan Manubay, leader of Urban Search and Rescue Team 2 of Central 911, said they are confident that the city is 95% ready for Agaton.

“As of now, Davao City is 95% ready for Agaton. All of our units, rubber boats and equipment are ready,” Manubay told Rappler.

Ready for other areas

Manubay added that aside from Davao City, Central 911 is ready to respond to other cities, towns and provinces if needed.

Davao’s Central 911 is one of the first responders who helped in Yolanda-hit areas and in the recent floods in Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte. (READ about Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s first visit to Leyte.)

Suspended

The Philippine Coast Guard already suspended all boat trips plying the Davao Sta. Ana Wharf-Talicud and Kaputian route while trips plying Davao’s KM11 wharf to Villarica pier in Babak in Samal Island will only operate during the daytime.

Capt. Alberto Caber, chief of the public information office of the military’s Eastern Mindanao Command, said at least 37 families in New Bataan, Compostela Valley were preemptively evacuated on Saturday evening. New Bataan was one of the many towns badly hit by Typhoon Pablo in 2012.

Moving

PAGASA posted that Tropical Depression Agaton is expected to be at 120 km Southeast of Davao City on Monday morning and at 60 km South of General Santos City by Tuesday morning.

By Wednesday morning, Agaton is expected to be at 220 km Southwest of General Santos City or out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), PAGASA added.

The local government of Davao reminds all residents to monitor advisories and to immediately evacuate if advised.

Residents who need assistance may dial 911 anytime. – Rappler.com
