Senior Fire Officer 3 John Joseph Jalique said the rubbish fire reached alarm 1 but was immediately put out shortly after. Witnesses reported the fire began at around 1:34 pm.
“Sa initial findings natin is discarded cigarette butt, although yun naman kasi ang nearest probable cause natin. Wala naman po kasing involved na electrical,” said Jalique.
(In our initial findings, it [came from] a discarded cigarette butt, although that is the nearest probable cause. There were no electrical wires involved.)
A CA staff who witnessed the fire said a cigerette butt was thrown at the open storage area from a nearby building at the Department of Justice (DOJ).
