Long wait for Haiyan shelters hit

Only 20% of homeless residents in Typhoon Yolanda-damaged Tacloban City have been transferred to bunkhouses, according to the chair of the Senate public works committee, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. The delay appears to be caused by the prolonged “processing” of residents by the Department of Social Welfare and Development which has to make sure that beneficiaries fulfill specific qualifications, such as having an income below the food threshold of the region. Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson also admitted that more work is needed, including correcting deficiencies and painting.
