
The lawyers of ousted Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi walked out of his trial in protest of his being confined in a soundproofed glass cage. He is being tried on charges of espionage and conspiring to commit acts of terror, the BBC said. The use of the glass dock, according to his lawyer Mohamed Selim El Awa is “unprecedented in the world,” CNN reported. Morsi was put in the cage to prevent him from shouting and disrupting proceedings. In a previous court appearance, Morsi shouted, “I am the president of the republic. How can I be kept in a dump for weeks?” He is accused of conspiring with the Palestinian Hamas, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. He gets the death penalty if convicted.
